Find your direction!
Get the point with the cardinal points

So, you hear me saying over and over again that feng shui is at its core a natural thing.

May sound nice, but what does it actually mean?!

Today, I’ll let you in on one of the most fundamental aspects of traditional feng shui.

This will turn you into a feng shui practitioner in a blink – and the best part?

You already sort of know about it – now it’s time to be aware and use it!??

The most natural thing – ever

When something is super easy, like, almost to-good-to-be-true-easy, it’s sometimes tricky to explain HOW easy it is – without ending up complicating it.

That’s SO me sometimes when it comes to feng shui!

So, I’m taking a deep breath and hope to be able to bring forth one the super simple and totally natural basis of traditional feng shui.

We’re talking directions here! Exciting, huh?!?

The thing is that directions have a huge impact on us. How?

To make it short;

The directions describe our relation or position to the sun and the daylight.

But let’s take it from the start.

If you think about it for a moment, the different directions have completely different atmospheres and ambiances.

Imagine for example a hot, sunny day at noon. The sun is shining, it’s warm and the light is bright. If you find your self on the sunny side of a house that day, it will feel very different from the shadowy side of the house.

“Duh”, you might think, “that wasn’t really rocket science, Maria!”.

And that is sort of the point! You already live by it from time to time, but might not give it much attention – just kind of “know and do”.

So you’ll seek the side of the house, or place, where you feel good – sometimes that’ll be on the sunny side, other times that’ll be on the shadowy side. And your choice probably has a lot to do with what you’re about to do; eating, relaxing, working out – or whatever.

You’ll naturally choose the place (if you can!) where you feel good for that specific activity.

When we get indoors, the same principles apply.

But the thing is that when we get indoors, we might not be as aware of it as when we’re outdoors, and hence; we don’t choose deliberately where in our homes we do certain things.

For example, most people prefer to sleep where it’s more chill, shadowy and with a fresh brisk air – compared to a hot, sunny spot. And while working or trying to really focus on a mentally demanding task, most people want to be in a bright, clear space – rather than a dark, murky one. These are just simple examples, but hopefully, the idea gets through.

And now what?

Begin to be aware and start to pay attention (my mantra, I know!?) – realizing how the different directions feel and how they affect you.

Does it feel warm and cozy? Damp and chill? Lively or calm? Relaxing or energizing?

You can start to explore this outdoors, just to make it easier for yourself. And then you can apply the same kind of awareness indoors.

How much difference you’ll experience from direction to direction depends on where on the planet you live and the current season.

So, go be curious, put on your explorer hat – and see what you’ll discover!

Over to you!

  • Does this make sense? Or did I manage to complicate something that’s natural and sort of simple??
  • What’s your biggest “aha” after reading this?
  • Are you already aware of this and how have you made use of it?

Share in the comments below, I’d be so happy to hear from you!

And if you have any questions – ask away below too. Your question might help somebody else, and I’m happy to answer! And, of course, there is no such thing as a stupid question – but you know that already, right?☺

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for reading!
